A single-stranded
RNA molecule containing about 70-90
nucleotides, folded by intrastrand
base pairing into a characteristic secondary ('
cloverleaf') structure that carries a specific amino acid and matches it to its corresponding
codon on an
mRNA during protein synthesis.
