Photoinduced extrusion of carbon monoxide

CO).
Notes:
- Typical example is the Norrish Type I photoreaction, in which, after
production of the diradical upon photoinduced α-cleavage,
CO
is eliminated. This reaction has been widely exploited for the production of
radicals in crystals, as well as for the synthesis of cyclic compounds.
- Another example is the photodecarbonylation of alpha-aryl aldehydes.
