Silica modified by organic groups.
Notes:
- Organically-modified silicas can be obtained by sol-gel processing.
- An organically modified silica is of general structure
(RO)aSi(B)b(C)c(D)d,
where (a+b+c+d)=4, R is any alkyl, aryl or heteroaryl group and B, C and D are generally organic groups.
- Though it is a commonly used acronym for organically modified silica, 'Ormosil'
is a trademark and as such its terminological use is discouraged.
