Derivatives of the parent structure

of which the alkylidene derivatives,
R2C=N+(O−)OH
(tautomers of nitroalkanes), are the most commonly encountered. The alkylideneazinic
acids are known as nitronic acids or, synonymously as
aci-nitro compounds, e.g.
CH2=N+(O−)OH
methylideneazinic acid.
