A process caused by
sputtering,
trapping (or adsorbing) metallic atoms, gas atoms or molecules on the walls of the vessel
or
anode. This has the effect of reducing the gas pressure in sealed lamps, and may be useful
for cleaning up or gettering unwanted gases.
