If the temperature
coefficient of the rate of
adsorption is substantial, an adsorption process is said to be activated (i.e. to have a significant
activation energy). In this case, the
sticking coefficient is small. In general, the
activation energy of activated adsorption is a function of coverage and it usually increases
with increasing coverage.
