Compounds consisting of two
acyl groups bonded to the same oxygen atom acyl-O-acyl. Symmetric and mixed
anhydrides have identical and different
acyl groups, respectively. E.g.
acetic anhydride,
acetic benzenesulfonic anhydride,
(thiobenzoic) anhydride.
